Oomph Wellness wins the Health Tech Digital Awards 'Best COVID-19 Solution for Mental Health'

Managing residents mental health and wellbeing through the COVID-19 pandemic

Oomph! Wellness, part of Person Centred Software's family of products and the country's leading wellbeing business for older adults, has been awarded the
'Best COVID-19 Solution for Mental Health' at this year's Health Tech Digital Awards.

The Health Tech Digital Awards, a competition honouring the best digital health resources, helps to share and celebrate digital teams, programmes, innovations and health tech suppliers that have made a difference throughout the year as well as helping to shape future services and systems across health and care.

Awarded for its Activities and Wellbeing platform, developed during the COVID-19 pandemic, Oomph! Wellness continues to be a success today, with over 1,800 care homes subscribed.

Oomph! was keen to assist older adults in whatever way it could during the pandemic, as the care sector had been severely affected and the wellbeing of older adults had become more critical than ever.

Without regular visits from friends and family, residents started to feel disconnected from loved ones and the outside world, and they became vulnerable to social isolation. Furthermore, the need for social distancing and isolation negatively affected everybody's mental health.

These drastic changes resulted in many people developing anxiety, depression and a sense of loneliness, and many older adults found it hard to maintain mental well-being.

Oomph! Wellness, already a multi-award-winning social enterprise, created its On-Demand Activities and Wellbeing platform as a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Before the outbreak, Oomph!'s services were available on-site and face-to-face, supporting residents' mental and physical health in care settings.

As the pandemic took hold, the Oomph! team released all its guides and resources online so that residents could continue to get support for their mental and physical health.

The Activities and Wellbeing platform, which offers services around wellbeing activities and training for residents and staff, enabled thousands of care home residents to receive mental and physical health support during the pandemic.

By providing ready-made and accessible content, Oomph! helped to alleviate the pressure on care teams and helped to stimulate older adults across the UK. Oomph!s resources, such as relaxation workshops, art activities and exercise lessons, helped reduce anxiety symptoms and improve mental wellbeing, helping to calm older adults during the pandemic.

The Oomph! Wellness On-Demand Wellbeing & Activities platform, created specifically for the social care sector and by experts in wellbeing, mental health, dementia, and nutrition, gives care home residents and staff access to specialist activity programmes, wellbeing programmes and content tailored to residents specific needs and requirements, 24-7.

During the pandemic, the demand for these resources grew to such an extent that Oomph! decided to invest in developing an online platform that placed all these resources in every subscribed care home.

As a result of working with leading industry experts, Oomph! was able to develop content that engaged residents, improved wellbeing, reduced anxiety and distracted residents from what was going on in the outside world, keeping residents engaged mentally, physically and emotionally.

The platform helps residents:

  • Enhance quality of life

  • Improve physical and emotional health

  • Assist residents in maintaining their independence

  • Improve family and friend interaction

  • Boost brain stimulation

  • Improve balance and mobility

  • Reduce isolation and loneliness

  • Improve social interaction

  • Reduce depression
