Fundraising for dementia

Oomph takes on fundraising walk to support people living with dementia

dementia-walk

Last week, part of the Person Centred Software team embarked on a brisk 3k sponsored walk around Guildford, the historic and vibrant county town of Surrey. The team organised the walk to raise funds for 'Alzheimer's Society', a UK care and research charity for people with dementia and their carers, and 'Our Dementia Choir', a Nottinghamshire-based charity that supports those living with dementia, started by Line of Duty star Vicky McClure!

The team members who participated in the dementia fundraising walk have all previously worked in care and supported people living with dementia; the cause is particularly close to their hearts.

Supporting individuals living with dementia has always been important to me. This mission started long before working in care due to my grandad's battle with Alzheimer's disease. As I reflect on the memories of my grandad and the other people I've had the pleasure to support through meaningful activities, I am continually reminded that living a full life with dementia is entirely possible. I participated in the dementia walk to both raise funds and spread awareness. My goal is to share this message: living well with dementia is not only possible but essential! Taking part in the walk with the inspiring team here at Person Centred Software and being able to share this moment with them was a fantastic experience.’

After working in the Care Sector for 25 years, one of my most rewarding jobs was as a dementia lead/support worker in care homes and the community. Making a difference and helping people live well with dementia is a passion, and I'm lucky enough to still be making a difference at Person Centred Software. Much research and funding are needed in this area, and I'm proud to do my part, especially after experiencing this on a more personal level; it is even closer to my heart. Being able to raise funds for these two amazing charities has been great, and I know my team is as passionate about this as I am. It was great to walk with them all.

On the 3rd of October, during the 'Our Dementia Choir' rehearsal, we're looking forward to presenting the charity with a cheque containing the funds we've raised! We're hoping Vicky McClure will be there to receive it! 'Our Dementia Choir' was started by Vicky after her late grandmother's diagnosis of Alzheimer's, with the sole purpose of improving the quality of life for people with dementia.

So, lovers of 'This is England', 'Line of Duty', and general Vicky fans, dig deep as this is her charity, and let's all contribute generously to this worthy cause
